True to the adage, if you cannot draw it you cannot make it, the Portico started out as a series of sketches that were later refined into architectural drawings and enlarged to scale. As pictured at left, a scale drawing of the lamp fixtures was transferred to a steel plate and used to shape and assemble the pieces.

Each piece is hand forged from a 3" x 3/4" iron bar in a coke fired forge.
